Officers from the Bridgeport Police Department responded to a shooting on Worth Street at approximately 12:05 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27, where they found 31-year-old Daron Jones on a porch with a gunshot wound to the chest.
The investigation into the shooting led police to identify Bridgeport resident Jarrel Baker as a suspect, who was arrested late on Monday, Oct. 12 by members of the department’s Tactical Narcotics Team.
Bridgeport Police Lt. Christopher LaMaine said that at the time he was arrested, Baker was in possession of a handgun, which he later admitted to detectives that he used to murder Jones over an ongoing feud with a friend of his.
Baker was charged with murder, criminal possession of a firearm, and carrying a pistol without a permit.
LaMaine said that “the arrest is the result of outstanding work by members of the Detective Bureau, in particular, the case detective, Martin Heanue. Additionally, the Tactical Narcotics Team, under Lt. (John) Cummings and Sgt. (Christopher) Paoletti, played a vital role in capturing Baker.”
